Life on the Smallholding – The Inspiration Behind the Artwork 🌿🐄

Life on the Yorkshire smallholding is at the heart of everything created by Sharron Russell. Surrounded by animals, countryside views and everyday rural moments, inspiration can often be found right outside the studio door. From cheeky farmyard characters to peaceful countryside scenes, much of Sharron’s artwork is inspired by the animals and lifestyle that have become such a big part of family life.

Over the last 10 years, Sharron has become widely recognised for her unique style and much loved Quirky Cows & Farmyard Friends collections, bringing warmth, humour and countryside charm into homes across the UK. Alongside original artwork and homeware, her popular kitchen splashbacks have become a favourite feature in many country homes.

The smallholding is also shared with her daughter, Hannah Russell, who is known for her best-selling animal books inspired by life with their much loved animals. Readers may even recognise some familiar faces throughout the artwork collections, as many of the animals featured in Hannah’s stories can also be found woven into Sharron’s creative work online.

From Little Alf the miniature Shetland pony to other farmyard friends, the collections celebrate the personalities, stories and charm of countryside life. Together, the artwork and books capture a world inspired by nature, animals and the simple joy of rural living.
